There is a new email address for image show submissions.  Effective April 1st all image show submissions must be sent to 7pondsphoto@charter.net.

Just to clarify, each member can submit up to six images for each monthly image show.  These images can be any subject you want, named anything you want, but it is preferable that the Digital Image Size and File Name Instructions  be followed.  Jpg images must be 768 pixels on the long side. Images should be sent to 7pondsphoto@charter.net at least a few days before the first Friday meeting.

Learn Flash Photography at the April 1st Meeting

Sandy Gorney will host a presentation on  flash photography by showing a 30 minute video on the basics of flash.  After the video you can “learn by doing” by using Sandy’s equipment to experiment with some of the concepts shown in the video.  One of the best websites to learn about SLR hot shoe flash is David Hobby’s strobist.com.

Image Show and Competition Entries

24 02 2011

Just to clarify, each member can submit up to six images for each monthly image show.  These images can be anything you want, named anything you want, sized anyway you want, but it is preferable that the  SPNC Photography Club Digital Projection Division Rules procedure be followed.  Images should be sent to
sjgorney-spncphotoclub@yahoo.com at least a few days before the first Friday meeting.

Each member can submit up to three images for each monthly competition. A maximum of two images can be submitted in any one category.  Entries must follow the SPNC Photography Club Digital Projection Division Rules on the Documents page.

Identical images can be submitted in both the image show and competition but they must be at least two months apart.  This is to ensure that the judges aren’t influenced by viewing an image in competition that was shown in the image show two weeks prior.

New Procedures Posted for Competition Night

24 02 2011

There is a new category in addition to NA, CG, CC, and MG.  Assignment (AS) category is for images that conform to the monthly assignment and include NA, CG, CC, and MG.  Further details are in the SPNC Photography Club Digital Projection Division Rules on the Documents page.

Two new procedures are there as well and pertain to use of the photoclubservices.com website.  They are How to view results from a SPNC Competition and Upload Instructions for SPNC Competitions.

Image Show Entries Increased to Six Per Member

22 02 2011

We are increasing the number of images that each member can submit for the image show on the first Friday of the month.  Each member can now submit up to six images.  The sizing and naming conventions detailed in the procedure on our website spncphotoclub.wordpress.com is strongly encouraged but not mandatory.

We will have an image show during our March meeting before Monte Nagler speaks, so please submit them to me at sjgorney-spncphotoclub@yahoo.com.  They will be presented in alphabetical order so if you want all of your images shown together you need to name them accordingly.

Monte Nagler is our guest speaker March 4th

11 02 2011

Come on out and enjoy an evening of Q&A with Monte Nagler.  This is a free-flowing discussion so be prepared with your questions or discussion topics. Monte will also have his prints and books for sale.

Monte  is a noted writer, lecturer and teacher of photography. He has conducted many classes and seminars throughout the states. Not only has he written a nationally syndicated photography column, but he is also the author of six highly successful photography books: How To Improve Your Photographic Vision; Statements of Light; Monte Nagler’s Michigan; Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam – A Photographic Journey; and Amos Walker’s Detroit (co-authored with Loren Estleman); and Quartets “Photographs In Visual Harmony” self published.

Monte began photographing seriously after studying with Ansel Adams. “It was during that period of intensive work that I realized that making photographs is a way to experience beauty instead of just looking at it,” Nagler says. He believes that photographers should communicate feelings that are inside them. Through their photographs, a photographer should be saying: “This is what I saw and felt and I’d like to share that!”

There is no charge for paid members.  If you are not a paid member you can pay and join the night of the event.

Admission for guests is only $5 per person.  All proceeds go toward a new digital projector.  If you will be attending with or as a guest, Stu Davis will be collecting the admission fee.

P.S. Don’t forget to submit your images for the image show before Monte’s session.
